Dio "Heaven & Hell Tour" Montreal Bell Center

Ronnie James Dio "Heaven & Hell Tour"

They say a photo speaks a thousand words...Some speak more than others. The essence of true rock captured without a single spoken word...

Switchfoot Live in Montreal...

A ready and willing crowd embraced Switchfoot live in Montreal March 3rd by piling into a packed Le National in anticipation.

Copeland took the stage and warmed it all up by driving through tracks of their consistently growing commercial debut "Eat, Sleep, Repeat". Although still a rookie name on the scene the boys are building a fine nest for themselves.

As for the headliners; all who watched must have felt that Switchfoot came to Montreal wanting to make this one count; and count it did. The lads went above and beyond playing a set and made their fans part of the experience. Touring their new album "Oh! Gravity" and playing to a sold out crowd virtually every night across Canada and the US, these boys do it right by creating a show. An exciting experience offered to their fans almost as a gift for their loyalty and support. This Montreal crowd proved to be appreciative of everything Switchfoot brought to the table that night...including a cover of a tune by a well known Montreal band, Arcade Fire.

Rage Against the Machine...

Rage Against the Machine is set to add three more shows on to their reunion. The grandaddy show will remain Coachella...however anticipation is growing as RATM has announced a team up with The Wu-Tang Clan under the banner of "Rock the Bells", the acclaimed hip-hop festival kicking off in New York city on July 28th.

Rage Against the Machine will be headlining the festival which sold out 3 months in advance due to the announced appearance of the legendary L.A. band. RATM last took the stage in 2000 and are back now to "to rally young people against President Bush, the war in Iraq and the Republican Party", according to Morello.

Ahhh spring....well sort of.

Hey Everyone,

Well things have been pretty busy for me lately and I apologize for not posting for awhile.

I was cruising down 17th ave last weekend and got a chance to talk to some people there about music. One band that came up was Goose, if you have not heard of them I suggest you go try to find their disc Bring it on. I had a chance to talk to the lovely ladies at Purr and they have been loving Goose for over a year now. My friend who lives in Paris mentioned them to me last summer were they are in commercials and Champions league ads. So go check it out!

If you look to the right of this post you will see some of the bands that we are listening to. I would if you could try to find the Arcade Fire EP which is a little easier to get these days than it used to be. Some tracks of note are No Cars Go ( yes this is on neon bible but this version is better) I am sleeping in a submarine is also good. Famous last words by MCR is on there too. If you can locate a deluxe copy of Welcome to the Black Parade I would say get it, not only does it come in neato black velvet box it comes with a huge book full of art and production notes from the making of the album.

Well I am off to make my way through the melting snow.

Goose "Bring It On" ya Bring it !!

What can I say about Goose's album "Bring It On"?? Well for starters it totally fuckin Kills it!! There sound could be described as "PostpunkPop Electroclash Rock Rave" but I think not matter what it will make you want to dance and may be smash something while cutting some rug. "Black Gloves" is almost like an Electrohouse club anthem and surly will become a dancefloor shaker and a Rock out smasher. This track can even be heard in a clip on youtube being played at this years NHL All star game. Goose has also scored by landing themselves the theme to Heineken's new Champions League campaign. So Maybe if you still haven't heard em yet, You fuckin should geeezer! Because believe me, you will!! These four young lads from Belgium are going to blow up!! Even the Big Dj/Club super publication MIXMAG has had a say on Goose writing.."a live band with a strong dance undercurrent... a band to keep an eye on..." So Go Google em or go to there website http://www.goosemusic.com/ See the videos on Youtube as well "Black Gloves" and "British Mode" and Whatever Get with the NewSchool fools....

Papa Roach Doesn't Quite Deliver...

California's Papa Roach hit the Metropolis in Montreal on February 22nd playing to a not so sold out crowd that were there to relive their post millennium angst. Singer Jacoby Shaddix's and his gang are better known for their own blend of rap rock, but with their new release "The Paramour Sessions" they try to leave behind the rap influence and fall flat on their face. Which they only proved to us during their performance while fans seemed unimpressed with the new material and occasionally coming back to life for such hits as "Last Resort" and "Between Angels and Insects".

Chained to a laptop

Hey Everyone,

I am sitting at my lappy, trying to force my way through yet another weekend of assignments, papers etc.......Needless to say it is not very much fun.

The only benefit I get from weekends like this in addition to getting a degree so I can work one day is that it allows me to rock out to music. This weekend I have multiple playlists going on my iPod but one thing that is standing out it the Dashboard single by Modest Mouse. I have only been a fan for a few years but I have to say my favorite album from them is The Moon and Antarctica. particularly the songs paper thin walls and life like weeds.

I was not lucky enough to go see them last time they came through here but I was lucky enough to see my roommate imitate a dance he saw at the show. This dance was something to be seen and writing it down would not do it justice. Let me just say it involved him, a broken lamp fixture from the kitchen, a bruised nose, and a woken up roommate while I laughed in the corner.

My friend ( the woken up roommate) tells me that he rocks out to it when he catches it on the radio on his commute to San Jose every morning.

Well I should be getting back to the speech writing and such. I will catch you guys soon!

Eddie Van Halen to Enter Rehab...

On the Van Halen website a message addressed to the adoring fans stated that Eddie Van Halen is to enter rehab for unspecified reasons. Eddie was quoted saying, "At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That's why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110 per cent that I feel I owe you and want to give you".
I think Eddie has it all wrong, going to rehab could wreck his career. Look at Keith Richards, he's done so much acid its preserved his bones, he's immortal and geriatrically stronger than ever. Maybe Eddie should reconsider...then again judging by the picture, rehab may be his only option...

Augustana and Vega 4 in MTL...

Augustana and Vega 4 graced an intimate crowd with some soothing sounds at Le National in Montreal. The show proved to be an exercise in stamina for Vega 4 as the perseverant members performed a more than worthy set while suffering from tour colds that would have otherwise unearthed a less enthusiastic band. Great sound and great presence puts this band in the running for great things.
The headliners Augustana also delivered the goods however seeming a little shaken by the lack of attendance. The boys nonetheless strapped out hits from there debut album "All the Stars and Boulevards" and made sure to make the performance about their music rather than friendly banter with the crowd. If fans were looking for a charismatic conversation with the band during the show, they were left disappointed. If they were looking for a solid musical performance closely resembling the album in quality, they left satisfied.

Sandstone City Roller Girls NOW RECRUITING

Well I am back....and yes talking about Roller Derby yet again!
But why not? It has taken over my life and become all that i do. I guess that comes along with being in charge!

We had our first fundraiser on Feb 14th. It was called Slugs & Kisses and was to raise money to help cover the costs of our upcoming boot camp next month. For our first fundraising event it was a HUGE success! Well aside from the fact there was a drive by shooting out front that happened right in front of our coach and his girlfriend, who happen to be two people that NEVER go out to clubs!! They were pretty traumatized. Anyways, the event was a night at a club and the admission went to us. We had pillow fighting, which interestingly enough has become a professional sport in the U.S.! The audience LOVED it and it was pretty cool to watch girls beating the crap out of each other with pillows. We also had girls on skates skating around the venue and a kissing & spanking booth where patrons could pay to have a roller girl kiss or spank them! I couldn't beleive that people were actually INTO this sort of thing even though we aren't 'known' yet.

Anyways, aside from that we've also had a skate-a-thon to raise money and that so far was our biggest bread winner. We made enough cash to cover the coaches flights & rental of our facility.

I am watching "Intervention" on tv right now so I have officially lost my train of thought......lets get back on target..

Ok...so we have just started training to do dryland training which will help with endurance. I have been talking to other leagues and have discovered that nobody does this sort of training. Most leauges seem to just do stretching and some excercising, but very minimal. My thoughts are that most people dont do it because its SUPER hardcore training. We have the most amazing coach in the world and he normally coaches speed skating, but he has taken a HUGE chance with us and has put his reputation on the line to coach roller girls. He is Canadian representative for Roller Sports Canada as well as many many many other roller sports organizations. For him to dedicate his time to coaching roller girls, who normally have a cliche bad ass slutty image, is a HUGE risk for his professional image.
Anyways, he has us training to be the BEST league there is and I think he's on the right track. I give his girlfriend ALL the credit in the world because she is SUPER cool with him coaching us. I myself can't say that I'd be that ok with my husband coaching 30 some odd roller girls wearing short skirts and showing their panties! Anyways, she's a coach too and we hope to bring her on board in the near future.

Things have been going good and we almost have our new venue ready. The only thing I am worried about is losing a few of the girls once the dryland trianing starts. The problem is that not all of the girls are in shape...some of them are bigger girls and I think the dryland will be a HUGE challenge for them. I don't expect them to be perfect at it, but as long as they give it their best effort, I will be satisfied. Lately I have noticed that some of them have developed an 'i can't do it' attitude which is basicaly covering up the 'i don't want to' mentality they really have. Unfortunately this is what is going to cause them to ruin their opportunity to become a roller girl! It'll be hard to see them go but in the end its not fair to the girls who ARE giving it their all if the slackers get the same opportunities as them.

Because of all of this I am going to be short girls. This is why we are having tryouts! On March 24th we are holding our first official tryouts. Girls have been let known about this in advance so they have a month to head to our local roller rink and get some practice in. We decided to only take girls who pass minimal skill requirements so that we aren't setting ourselves back and starting from scratch again.

I hope we get enough girls coming out and passing to have a third team within the league. The more teams we have the better!! It's a hard job starting up a league of a sport that has been dormant for a couple of decades. My goal is to someday quit my job and do derby full time. Lord knows I'd get alot more done if I didn't have to go to work every day. Sometimes life is VERY stressful but derby right now is what keeps me sane. I never fit in growing up and rarely made a sports team, so for the first time in my life i fit in some where. Not only that but girls are befriending me...something that was almost non existant before. And..I am GOOD at skating!! For the first time in my life I am GOOD at a sport instead of being the mascot I have a chance to participate and win! The best part of it is I am able to have an alter ego or other personality..she is Sweaty Betty and through her I can release my anger whether its skating as fast as I can or kicking my opponents ass...it feels GREAT!

Skate or die!

Billy Talent, Rise Against, Anti-Flag and rookie scenesters Moneen @ the Montreal Bell Center February 5, 2007

Billy Talent, Rise Against, Anti-Flag and rookie scenesters Moneen showed Montreal what energy was all about at a packed Bell Centre February 5th.
In front of raised fists and excited faces Anti-Flag & Rise Against tore through old and new tracks, bringing a bubbling crowd to its feet only to have them over flow to the sounds of Billy Talent.
The headlining foursome, hailing from a mould shattered upon conception and lead by front man Ben Kowalewicz, remained true to form as the vigorous quartet proved an anxious crowd's anticipation correct. The words of one crowd member summed up the show by stating "you can't fake what Billy Talent does. you either have it or you don't".

Posh Spice...Stepping into reality...

For those of you who haven't heard...we as a society will be insulted by yet again another reality show. This time it features Victoria Beckham...who i'm sure we are all so freakin' interested in that we need to bring her star studded life into our homes. We don't know the nitty gritty of the show yet however sources say that the show will revolve around Victoria's professional life at work. Fewf...we dodged a bullet there...almost received info about the lesser things in her life; like her husband & children. Apparently we will all be surprised just how funny and incredible Victoria really is. Victoria was quoted saying "I hope this shows everyone what i'm really about". So i guess the show will portray her digging for gold in the back yard...or whining about her hair. Maybe i'll be proven wrong and the show will be a genuine effort in cinematic genius...and...maybe i'll win $35,000,000 and never have to work again. Impossibilites do occur...
