Stick humour

On a slow slow day, this is one of the only things that gets a laugh out of me. You guessed it, it's primitive humour! There's also plenty more on the site. Enjoy!

She Emerges From The Shadows

I am still alive, I swear! I apologise for my lack of updating the blog, I have to admit that starting a new job and becoming promoted within the first two weeks takes the breath out of you for a while. Anyhow, I'm back on my feet and itchin' to get back into my writing and listen to some good tunes.

Still listening to a lot of Kasabian and a lot of Ill Scarlett - definitely one of the first discs I throw on when I have company over. "Check this out..." business, you know how it goes. I have something I have written about Mew's latest album and will have that posted shortly. As well as the new Oasis release (best of, 2 disc). Ah, yes, Red's all over the place these days. I was just handed the new Copeland release so you'll probably see something coming from me about that in the not too distant future.

Well, until next time - thus you shall now wait... anxiously. Muaha.

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow...

Okay, to my Ontario people- WTF IS GOING ON??? Mother nature tricked us into thinking we were not going to have any snow. November 2006 came... no snow! It came December 2006... no snow!!! Christmas/new years break? No snow... So we assumed that there will be no snow for winter 2006/2007. Great for some of us! Everyone was suggesting that this was Global Warming and because we are not going to have any snow for winter 2006, it just means that we are going to have a killer hot summer 2007 (wooo hooo, ladies, get ready to lose those clothes... Fellas, try to keep yours on please). However, as of January 15... BOOM. -10 degree weather, snow storms and freezing rain hit Ontario. This shit is crazy! So we did not get a white Christmas, but start gathering those boots and scarfs ladies and gents… cuz winter is FINALLY here.

Kasabian saves our practice

So I was at the roller rink for one of my weekly practices, when I discovered that the radio station was slowly sucking the life out of my girls with its relaxing melodies. It was an adult listening station which consists of light music you would normally hear in an elevator..only more like just the instrumental without the vocals. It was dreadful and it was putting us to sleep, when we really needed something that made us feel alive and pump us up to skate fast put a smile on our faces.

Luckily I found my Kasabian "Empire" album in my skate bag and went to the DJ booth to throw it on. This album most definately did the trick an after the 2nd and 3rd tracks I could start to my girls asking "what cd is this?", "what is this song?", "whose cd is this?". I then gave them the low down on what I knew about the band an assured them that the rest of the album was equally as good. Needless to say I had to lend my pen out at the end of practice so the girls could write down the name of the band and buy the cd!! I felt like I did my part - it always feels great to introduce somebody to a new band or cd - especially if they have never heard of them before and MOST especially if they end up loving them!

Upcoming events...Calgary...what does 2007 have to offer?

Last year was pretty satisfying as far as events, festivals and concerts. I can only hope that 2007 will be even better!

Unfortunately one concert I was looking forward to has been cancelled due to the artist dying...yes...James Brown has left the building...causing his Jan 10th date in Calgary to be no more.

Evanescence will be here in January and should be a pretty good show. I caught her act at an outdoor festival a couple of years ago and grew quite fond of her beautiful voice.

Snoop Dog w/ Ice Cube will also be playing in January! I'm super stoked for this show!! I hope it has enough old school hits to keep my nostalgic side satisfied.

Chantel Kreviazuk will be here in February and although I don't generally listen to softer music, I do appreciate hers. I have had a thing for Chantal since first hearing her a few years back.

Lamb of God will be here in March and although I'm not into such hard music, I think I am going to check them out becuase I have heard that they put on a wicked show.

March also brings us Iris Dement which is SOOO exciting for me because she is one of the artists that sings "In Spite Of Ourselves" with John Prine....which song just so happens to be "our song" (my husband and I). I missed John Prine when he came to town, so this will have to do.

The Fray will be here in March and I think the show is going to do much better now that they are becoming so mainstream. I know their music has been featured on Gray's Anatomy and has gotten them quite the fan base.

Thats all I know of right now....I'm sure as the weeks progress more events will be announced. Some of hte events I look most forward to every year are: Van's Warped Tour, Lilac Festival, Calgary Stampede and Calgary Tattoo Convention. Last year we also got to attend Slam City Jam which was pretty cool. Hopefully this year if we host it again, it'll be a bit more organized and have more vendors.

Some of the best shows I have seen in past:
-Dido in Banff - this show was QUITE intimate with a very small audience. I was a fan of Dido, but REALLY got an appreciation for her after hearing her perform all of her songs to a perfection like I have never heard from an artist before. It sounded as though I was listening to her album! She hit EVERY note bang on!

-NIN in Calgary - This was one of the best shows I have ever been to in my life! Granted I am a HUGE NIN fan and this show was a dream come true! It was better than I ever imagined and I was quite pleased that Trent covered a LOT of old tracks which brought me back to my teen angst years. Pretty Hate Machine is one of those must have albums that everyone needs in their collection...an album that contains a list of songs that I love entirely! Not your typical album where you like one or two songs...but instead LOVE the ENTIRE album.

-Another such album "Ten" by another artist I was blessed to see...Pearl Jam! Another great show that included a bunch of oldies that brought me back.

-System of a Down was another memorable show. Before attending I had heard one or two of their more popular songs and liked them, but assumed the band itself was a bit too tough for me. Boy was I wrong! Their show was incredible! And despite the high teenage loser that kept falling into me and whom I ended up kicking in the face..it was an impressive show. It was nice to see a band play without all of the razzle and dazzle of light shows and special effects. Their stage presence was very minimalistic with only the band appearing on stage with their instruments. It show cased their talent instead of relying on tricks to impress the audience.

well.....the hour is getting late and I am falling asleep at my computer. I will add more to this post tomorrow...or maybe come up with something else to ramble about. Depends on if you feel lucky, punk? <-- ok that just proves that I am deleriously tired....time for bed...ZZZZZzzzzzzzz.....
