Vans Warped Tour - SO AWESOME

So...I had a blast at Vans Warped Tour. Our tent was by far the most popular - of course becuase we had freebies! I think the only competition we had was the MySpace booth - they had freebies as well.

Can't beleive how many people were crowded around our booth for pretty much the entire day. We had huge lifesize cutouts of Ozzy Osbourne, System of a Down and Pearl Jam and they were huge hits - fans got many photos taken with them. The Ozzy one was hilarious - every single person that had a photo done with him did the exact same rock and roll hand signal - pretty funny.

There were huge lineups to some of the autograph signings they had and it was probably one of the businest years I've ever seen...in the past 3 that I've gone to. The weather was awesome and there were some new booths this year with some cool merchandise.

This year was also our best with giveaways as well as our organization. We had everything organized prior to the event and the giftbags we gave out were a thousand times easier to manage over loose items. The only thing that was missing out was the Chuck Taylor givewaways that we had done the two previous years. Those were the BIGGEST hits and we just didn't have them this year. We did have some Tshirt giveaways and those seemed to go over just as well. Our most popular posters this year were System of a Down, Tool, Anti Flat and Bullet for my Vallentine. We ran out of the System ones by mid afternoon. The pins and stickers were a huge hit and the temporary tattoos were heavily sought after. Once word got aruond about what we had, we became swamped.

I got to see alot of bands that I like..was a bit disappointed about AFI - they were who I wanted to see the most, but the sound quality was terrible during their performance..such a shame.

Can't wait until next year!!

Bullet For My Valentine Interview!

Just over a week ago I got an email From Captain Jackie asking if I could come into the office on Tuesday for the Bullet For My Valentine interview that was to take place. Obviously I wanted to be present for it but I was unsure if I would be able to get off work to go and listen to the interview. Anyways I called her back but she wasn’t picking up her phone so I gave Nader (Street Team Coordinator) a call and asked him what going on with the interview. I wanted to find out what time it would take place and if they chose any of the questions I submitted. Well Nader told me all the details and topped it off with explaining that they had chosen me to conduct the actual interview. Hell yea, I was stoked. Right away I made sure I was able to book a few hours off work that day so I could do it. No way was I going to pass up the chance to have some fun and an interview this band. That being said this was my first phone interview and interview with a band period. I was excited but also nervous which defiantly shows. The interview starts off a little shaky but really picks up as it progresses. Paget was such a cool guy I just got more and more comfortable talking with him as the interview went on. He really gave some thought out answers to the questions I asked which is what made this interview so great. My eagerness and nervousness aside I think the interview turned out awesome. If you guys want to hear about all the cool stuff Paget had to say about the band, how they came up with their name, what happened on The Rob Zombie Tour a few months ago and much more check out the interview, it has all the answers! Just click the Bullet for my Valentine logo to the left of the I Love Rock cassette and you are good to go!

Sloan Takes Over The Kee!

Cottage country never sounded this sweet, Sloan is coming to play in Bala! The show is Sunday August 6th, 9:00pm at the Kee to Bala, tix will be going for roughly $35. Their new album "Never Hear The End Of It" plans on hitting Canada September 19th, so check your local music stores! The record will feature tracks from all four band members and promises to bring back the classic Sloan sound, which I personally have been dying for ever since the "Navy Blues" album and their hit single "Money City Maniacs".

Now hold on a sec, I know what your thinking, "where the *&^% is Bala, Ontario?" Lucky for you my parents have trained me well, after 20 years of heading up to the family cottage, Muskoka has become my second home. The Kee to Bala is pretty simple to find, take Highway 400 North past Barrie until you hit Muskoka Road 38, turn right and follow it all the way to Bala. About 2 minutes after you're in Bala look for Highway 169 and turn right, then make your next left at the train bridge, AND YOUR THERE!! That wasn't so hard now was it?.. Well maybe.. But if you're unsure of my directions that's what Map Quest was invented for! I don't want any hate mail if you end up in Thunder Bay so double check your route before you go. I'll be chilling at my cottage for the weekend and stopping in to check out the show on my way back to the city on Sunday... So bring your water wings and I'll see you there!

Editors @ Opera House this Wednesday!!!!

Hey iloverock peeps,

Wednesday nights are usually a bit of a bore, so why not go and catch an awesome band play in a smaller venue for a change. The Editors are playing at The Opera House this Wednesday August 2nd. There recent album “The Back Room” is amazing. There are still tickets available and they’re only 20 bucks! (Ok $24.25 with the service charge)

I've gone to a lot of great live shows this summer. Including Pearl Jam, Ozzfest, and Panic at the Disco. But they have all been huge events with tons of people. I haven’t been to a small show in so long. So I’m super excited, plus the Editors rock! And I think Tom Smith (singer) is kind of cute in a dorky way.

Hope to see you there,

PULSE

There are tons of great bands out there that really know how to rock an audience, but how many can really drive you wild visually and aurally. The new release of Pink Floyd’s DVD Pulse is guaranteed to stimulate all of your senses.

Not only is the cover art and design sick, the show is absolutely incredible. Reliving Pink Floyd’s last tour in 1994, Pulse was filmed in London over two nights. I’ve never seen a performance with so much power and emotion. The musical content is like no other, with the entire Dark Side of the Moon performance and incredible instrumentation for a live rock concert.

Visually you will encounter a full on laser and light show, a screening of very eerie and intriguing movie footage throughout a great deal of the act (on a circular screen!), flying pigs and much more.

I recommend this DVD to anyone with an ounce of musical taste; it will totally blow you away!

Demon possession has never looked so good.

It's no secret local horrorbilly experts The Matadors claim to have a hand in the 'dark arts' known as the Lucifarian Brotherhood of Baphomet. If you ever had your doubts, check out evidence of the Devil at work from the band's last show in Toronto on July 22nd. Creepy.

OZZFEST!!!!!!

So who’s stoked for Ozzfest this Tues? From the looks of the line up coming to
Toronto there should be a little something to satisfy the cravings of any metal head, not to mention that this may be the last time you ever get a chance to see System of a Down. This is Systems Farewell tour so I’m sure they will put on a show that will blow your head off your shoulders or if that doesn’t happen at least give you something to remember them by. On top of all the cool bands the I Love Rock street team will be there giving away tons of free swag, so make sure to stop by the tent, grab free stuff and while your at it get a picture of your bad self taken with one of the life size cut outs of System of A Down or Ozzy. Chances are this is as close as you’ll get to these guys and it defiantly will make for a memorable picture. Remember to get crazy with the life size cut outs because we’ll be throwing the best pics of the day up on our site. So if you don’t already have tickets get off your ass and get one! You’ll regret it if you don’t and then you’ll be left kicking yourself like I was when I missed Slayer earlier this month. Oh and while your at it introduce yourself to us! we want meet some new people and have a good time too.

High heels + Mic's = Leah Miller Tumble

MuchMusic Blooper!
You may think TV personalities have it all under control but yes, even in Canada, life sometimes comes unscripted. Leah Miller is probably the laughing stock of the queen street block. Check the cideo. Priceless~

I have some random pointless facts for you...

* An office desk has 400 times more bacteria than a toilet

* A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes long

* The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off

* Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure

* A cat's urine glows under a black light

* Barbie's boyfriend Ken was not sold in India until recently because it clashed with the traditional arranged marriage

Yeah I know what you're all thinking ... I wish I was a pig too..

A True Addiction

Soccer can sometimes be louder than..Music.
italy.jpg
5am and the alarm sounds with the fury of a scorned piece of machinery. I could ignore it and continue my slumber through the obscene one of a kind custom digital honking, a sound that my alarm clock has delicately perfected over the years, or shower, get dressed and tackle the day.I'll just wake-up, anything but the honking. I embark on my 15 minute shower of pain; 5min. cold, 5min. boiling hot, and the last 5min. just right except for the non-existent water pressure. I throw on some clothes and unlock the front door. One last look at the drumset that i'm not allowed to play in the apartment building and off to the office.
I-Pod jammed in my ears muting my surroundings and creating a soundtrack of loud rock delicacies, the trip to work could be worse. "Oh man this part is so good, the way the whole tempo of the song drops and the intensity grows; nothing but musical goodness". Get to work and pop the life lines out of my ears and settle in for 8 hours of mild office pain. The flickering computer screen and ringing telephone ARE SO SOOTHING. The day ends and it's off to the bus to make my way home. I pull out the brilliant little music source and touch play; nothing. Oh cruel unusal world the batteries are dead. Maybe i can shake it, yeah, shaking it will release the last bit of unused energy left in this complicated piece of equipment; nope, nothing, notta; dead. Oh c'mon, the whole way home and no chords, no beats, no breakdowns, no escape. The guy in front of me on the bus thinks singing out loud is apparently something that the other passengers want to hear. Of course it could be worse, he could be sitting next to me...As he gets up to make room for the boarder at a new stop he plants himself right next me. Thats ok the bus might take a sharp turn and i could just throw myself out of the window. Of course then i'd roll down the highway and "You can't roll without music". So no I-Pod no throwing myself from the bus. I'll deal with the singing and just be greatful that school's out and we won't have any whiny yelling 13 year old girlies. Oh what's this at the next stop, oh boy oh boy, a field trip of 5 year olds getting on to go home. This is fine, i'm ok, the ride's not that long. I'll sleep, yeah that's it, i'll sleep. To the whispering sounds of car honking celebrating Italians, don't get me wrong, i respect the win, i mean i'm Italian, but SHUT UP.
I finally get home to my quiet apartment and put on some music. The stress goes down, a smile forms on my face, angels part the smoggy city skies; all is right with the world again.
I can live with a rude awakening, i can deal with a shotty shower, long works days, singing freaks and loud socially unaware kids. However life without music that i can't deal with.

ROCKSTAR: SUPERNOVA

Well it's that time again for another dose of today's reality television, however this time I have this gut feeling it might actually be a good. I'm talking about the second season of Rock Star on CBS/Global. I saw the debut of the show last Wednesday and I must say the show was kickass, all the music performed was awesome. Watching Tommy Lee continue to make a fool of himself years after Motley Crue is always a special moment. The other members of Supernova are Jason Newsted formerly of Metallica and Gilby Clarke formerly of Guns N' Roses. I recommend watching a few episodes for nothing other than good rock tunes and laughter as you watch the attempt by three washed up rockers to make a comeback into pop culture. Either way I assure you this show will have drama and sweet rock covers, which in my opinion is a much better way to spend an hour than watching that other show.. which I dare not mention due to possible repercussions from the big boss man/woman :)... but I'm certain you can figure it out.. So enjoy the show everyone, twice a week on Tuesday and Wednesday check it out and hopefully another Canadian wins!

Everyone knows at least one person who regrets getting a certain tattoo. Unfortunately I am one of those people. However after seeing this woman’s tattoo I don’t feel quite as stupid.

Apparently she got paid $10 000 to do this. That is no where near enough money to do something so stupid!! Then again I did mine for free…

Although the rain came down hard, many people were hiding under the beer tent... A few people took advantage & had way too much to drink.
(Ex: Some wasted dude got arrested for jumping in Lake Ontario, while keeping him afloat was a big ass Molson Canadian, Umbrella)...

Unholy Alliance

Someone please give me a hard punch to the face next time you see me for sleeping on getting an early slayer ticket for the show that took place July 4 at the Molson Amphitheatre. I totally forgot about the show and then tried to pick up a last minute ticket at the door only to find out they were way out of my price range, I should have seen that one coming! In retrospect I should have given an arm and a leg to see the worlds best thrash metal band but it just wasn’t in the cards. If not being able to see slayer is not bad enough I didn’t get to see slayer with Lambardo back on drums. What I wouldn’t give to hear Lambardo just destroy his kit to Reign In blood, the man is an animal. The night just gets worse and worse especially after I got a hold of the set list: Disciple / War Ensemble / Behind the Crooked Cross / Fight Till Death / Mandatory Suicide / Hallowed Point / Dead Skin Mask / Seasons in the Abyss / Chemical Warfare / Hell Awaits / South of Heaven / Angel of Death // Postmortem / Raining Blood, someone might as well of just kicked me in the balls. Granted I would have liked to of seen more songs from the first album Show No Mercy, like Die By the Sword or The Antichrist but really how would I have been able to complain with a set list like that. It s quit evident that set list focused on Reign in Blood, South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss and why shouldn’t it. Reign in blood is unarguably the best thrash metal album ever written, it’s a sheer masterpiece, Kerrang didn’t credit Reign in blood for being the heaviest album of all time for nothing. South Of Heaven is also amazing; some argue that the tempo is too slow because the songs are not at neck breaking speed but who wants to hear the same album twice? I think this album is great, the opening riff of the title track kills and to be able to hear Lambardo destroy the drums on Mandatory Suicide live would have made my head explode. Of course they are going to play more then one song off of Seasons it combines the best elements of both Reign In Blood and South Of Heaven. This album has speed and melodies. The speed of War Ensemble is ferocious. Simply put slayer has too many great albums let alone songs. Anyways the only cool thing I got to see from this show is a picture I found of the cab set up how cool is that? Anyways since I was not there and can only speculate can anyone shed light on the event? How was it? Was slayer on key with everything? Were Arya’s vocals still in tact? I want to know how the openers were! Was anyone feeling Lamb of God? Hook me up with some feed back people I really want to know.

Festival Fest

So we’re well into mid summer now and there are lots of wicked festivals coming up to look forward to! To mention a few faves we’ve got Wakestock, Warped Tour and Ozzfest. Personally I’m really looking forward to Warped Tour this year.
Warped Tour
There’s a wicked line up including Alkaline Trio, Alexisonfire, Anti-Flag, Comback Kid, Moneen, Protest the Hero, Against Me!, Rise Against (check out the new album, it’ll rock your socks off.) and we can’t forget headliners NOFX.

Let us know who your looking forward to seeing at the festivals and what shows you plan on going to. Now, get your little fists in the air and we’ll see you there! (Rhyme not intended)

OLP: O Canada

Our Lady of Peace is back and owning Canadian charts. Canada Day, Edgefest, and an awesome performance by OLP left fans speechless this past July 1st long weekend. If you were unable to attend Edgefest 2006 you undoubtedly missed the best concert of the summer thus far. In a few days the photos will be up and all the crazy antics will be a click away, but until then check out OLP's my space at: http://www.myspace.com/ourladypeace; here you'll find a recording of the new song "Kiss on the Mouth" from their live performance at Edgefest at the Molson Amphitheatre. This single is not on their new album "Healthy in Paranoid Times" and it's a killer track, so I strongly urge you to check this out.

Hope everyone enjoyed the Canada Day long weekend as much as I did, and just so no one forgets, July 7th-9th is the Canadian Grand Prix in Toronto; Sony/BMG will be all over the race, so check us out while your downtown enjoying the festivities.
