You might be thinking 'Huh?! belated Christmas in April? You consider that on track?!' Well, perhaps you will be more understanding when I say we had to go to Edmonton to see my family.

My husband and I drove to Edmonton with our pug, Guinness, and between her catterwauling (everytime the car slows down, she lets out the most ungodly wailing noises) we listened to Goose, as recommended by a friend. We were taken aback by how energetic and catchy it was- definitely worth checking out!

Above all else, we had to get to Edmonton by noon- my dad is an amazing musician, and he jams every weekend at the CastleRock pub. I try to make it a point to get to see him play when I'm visiting.

Back when he was a lad, he taught himself to play guitar and harmonica, but there is a surplus of guitarrists at the CatleRock, so he brings only his blues harps. All 20 of them. Possibly more- enough to fill both sides of the case my mom just bought him for his birthday; apparently he was getting razzed for carrying around his beauties in a plastic Safeway bag.

No one plays harmonica like Gerry Pearson. He's got the harmonica belly fire. Belly fire being the obvious passion that people exude when they do something they really love. It doesn't matter if he knows the song, or if he's even heard it before- tell him the key you're playing in, and he can hold his own. Always. Its a real gift. From 'Green Onions' to 'Keep on Rocking in the Free Word,' he can do it all. If you're in Edmonton, (St Albert more specifically,) try to make it to an open jam- there is nothing like it! Sometimes, well known musicians pop in too- a few weeks ago, my dad played with BB King's bassist.

So Monday comes, and with it the regular work week... And Monday slips into Tuesday and my team misses a deadline despite 14 hour days. Tuesday, we were determined to finish up... and that usually means trouble. So, after another 14 hour day and eating nothing but cinnamon hearts I've had in my desk since valentines day, we're ready to 'go live' on the new website. I've been told for weeks that there were sections of the website that could not be tested until we went live, so I'm worried, but not to worried. We go live, things appear to be working, and the few pages that aren't are chalked up to 'still being published'. We all go home. admittedly, I'm almost out of cinnamon hearts, so I'm ready for some real food. and from home I check out the website, which is 1/3 down, and there is no way to contact our developers until 10 am Wednesday... and the pace of the week is set: Scramble>worry>worry>scramble.

It is over. Monday will bring a new set of challenges, like my yearly performance review. Couldn't it have been before last week's fiasco?!

The sun is back!!!!

Hello Everyone,

Sorry about not posting in awhile as I have been busy with school. Having spent so much time over my laptop these past few weeks has given me much time to listen to music. The main things I have been listening to are Goose,Peter Bjorn and John and Sufjan Stevens.

I have had the Goose album for awhile now and although I have listened to it quite abit I have not done an in depth listen. While I was putting together my presentation at 1am last week I found it really pumped my up and gave me that push I needed to get to 3am and finish the stupid thing. The tracks I really liked were Bring it on,British mode( I really liked the bass line on this one) and Low mode.....

The Peter Bjorn and John album is really good and I want to go and pick up some of their euro releases....hmmmm maybe tomorrow? but anyhoo have you seen the video for Young folks? It kind of reminds me of those filmstrips from the 50's. Keeping in mind I was not alive in that era and I have not seen a filmstrip since I was in elementary school. But if I had to describe it that's what I would say.

As for Sufjan Stevens I have been studying to all of his stuff as it helps me study. It is hard for me to recommend any particular song so I will just say get the Michigan,Illinois,The Avalanche and Seven Swans albums.

Well I am off to bed as I will be up early for BSD 2007 tomorrow !!!

Laters

Wildpirate

"No Fears Tour" '07...

The "No Fears Tour" rolled into town on February 28th, sporting Killswitch Engage, DragonForce, Chimira, and He Is Legend. Ready to pull out all the stops, He Is Legend and Chimira warmed up the chilly crowed coming in off the cold Montreal streets... leaving them anxious for DragonForce and their onstage guitar antics, between Heman Li and Sam Totman. Leaving the crowd on the brink of exploding with Metal pleasure, they handed the stage over to Killswitch Engage, with special guest Pat Lachman (Damageplan) filling in for Adam Dutkiewicz. The boys chimed in with a solid left upper cut. Although still a rookie name on the scene the boys are building a fine nest for themselves.

As for the headliners; all who watched must have felt that Switchfoot came to Montreal wanting to make this one count; and count it did. The lads went above and beyond playing a set and made their fans part of the experience. Touring their new album "Oh! Gravity" and playing to a sold out crowd virtually every night across Canada and the US, these boys do it right by creating a show. An exciting experience offered to their fans almost as a gift for their loyalty and support. This Montreal crowd proved to be appreciative of everything Switchfoot brought to the table that night...including a cover of a tune by a well known Montreal band, Arcade Fire.

Danny "LIT" McCarney

cornershopstudios.com

cornershopstudios.com

cornershopstudios.com

Sandstone City Roller Girls - New Recruit Tryouts

Hello everyone!

So we held our first tryouts on Saturday and the number of girls were impressive considering we advertised withOUT using the media.

Looks like we have 7 girls joining us and fingers crossed that there is NO drama!

I will write more in a bit..I am at work and have just been beckoned...so STAY TUNED......

...........btw....check out "Goose"s new album.its INCREDIBLE!

Liz

Rage Against the Machine...

Rage Against the Machine is set to add three more shows on to their reunion. One band that came up was Goose, if you have not heard of them I suggest you go try to find their disc Bring it on. I had a chance to talk to the lovely ladies at Purr and they have been loving Goose for over a year now. My friend who lives in Paris mentioned them to me last summer were they are in commercials and Champions league ads. So go check it out!

If you look to the right of this post you will see some of the bands that we are listening to. I would if you could try to find the Arcade Fire EP which is a little easier to get these days than it used to be. Some tracks of note are No Cars Go ( yes this is on neon bible but this version is better) I am sleeping in a submarine is also good. Famous last words by MCR is on there too. If you can locate a deluxe copy of Welcome to the Black Parade I would say get it, not only does it come in neato black velvet box it comes with a huge book full of art and production notes from the making of the album.

Well I am off to make my way through the melting snow.

Laters

WP

Simpsons are taking over the world

It's finally coming... Well for starters it totally fuckin Kills it!! There sound could be described as "PostpunkPop Electroclash Rock Rave" but I think not matter what it will make you want to dance and may be smash something while cutting some rug. "Black Gloves" is almost like an Electrohouse club anthem and surly will become a dancefloor shaker and a Rock out smasher. This track can even be heard in a clip on youtube being played at this years NHL All star game. Goose has also scored by landing themselves the theme to Heineken's new Champions League campaign. So Maybe if you still haven't heard em yet, You fuckin should geeezer! Because believe me, you will!! These four young lads from Belgium are going to blow up!! Even the Big Dj/Club super publication MIXMAG has had a say on Goose writing.."a live band with a strong dance undercurrent... a band to keep an eye on..." Which they only proved to us during their performance while fans seemed unimpressed with the new material and occasionally coming back to life for such hits as "Last Resort" and "Between Angels and Insects".

cornershopstudios.com

cornershopstudios.com

cornershopstudios.com

Chained to a laptop

Hey Everyone,

I am sitting at my lappy, trying to force my way through yet another weekend of assignments, papers etc.......Needless to say it is not very much fun.

The only benefit I get from weekends like this in addition to getting a degree so I can work one day is that it allows me to rock out to music. This weekend I have multiple playlists going on my iPod but one thing that is standing out it the Dashboard single by Modest Mouse. I have only been a fan for a few years but I have to say my favorite album from them is The Moon and Antarctica. particularly the songs paper thin walls and life like weeds.

I was not lucky enough to go see them last time they came through here but I was lucky enough to see my roommate imitate a dance he saw at the show. This dance was something to be seen and writing it down would not do it justice. Let me just say it involved him, a broken lamp fixture from the kitchen, a bruised nose, and a woken up roommate while I laughed in the corner.

My friend ( the woken up roommate) tells me that he rocks out to it when he catches it on the radio on his commute to San Jose every morning.

Well I should be getting back to the speech writing and such. I will catch you guys soon!

Laters

WP
